Disability Movement in Nepal
Dear All
Kathmandu, July 21, 2006, 4th, Independent Living Center Kathmandu, NFDN and
other disable people organization together announced the disability movement
(demonstration) demanding for the participation in the interim constitution
and to allocate the budget for the persons with disabilities. All types of
PWDs gathered at the Maitighar mandala , organized the demonstration to the
main south gate of Singhdarbar infront of the office of ministries. The
police tried to stop the demonstration but the PWDs break and success to
gather in front of the main gate. The police arrest more than 2 dozons of
PWDs from the demonstration. So many people injured by police during the
movement. Mr. Palsang Lama, Mr. Bhoj Raj Shrestha , IL members are injured
in this event.
During the movement the government called the representative from the group.
IL Coordinator Mr. Krishna Gautam was one of it. They put the strong demand
with Vice Prime minister. The prime minister tried to escape from the demand
and give sympathy to address the issues of disability in the cabinet
meeting. The movement will continue Sunday from 9 to 5 O'clock. The group
said the movement will continue until the full fill of demand.
