mapuche's culture -Carlos kaiser

Chile is a very long strip of land. central and south region
were inhabited by Mapuches (their name means people of
the land, understanding land as nature).

Mapuches lived in Argentina too. I was invited to a semminar
in Temuco city (9th region) and I took pictures of mapuches
I want to share with you.

promoting civil rights -Carlos kaiser

Dear friends,

I was invited to make an speech for a semminar in Temuco city (9th region, southern Chile). The main idea was to promote our right to vote in the upcoming elections.

in the semminar I met a great leader, she is mapuche, she has intellectual disability, but she leads a group called "self defenders". Self defenders are a group of persons with intellectual disabilities that work by they own.

I finally met Adelmo, he is a leader in Chile. We were always online but never in person.

fostering PwD's enterprises -Carlos kaiser

In Chile we have a National Found (FOSIS) designed to help people to
overcome poverty. They provide training and founds. This way, people learn
how to run a business.

We start a special project with FOSIS. The project has ben designed to
render training and to give founds to PwD in Algarrobo for they to start a
small business. We will provide professional advisory too.

I am happy to say we are selecting our first 15 participants.

letter from Veronica Rodríguez and two pictures -Veronica Rodríguez

Dear jicafriends,

It’s amazing how fast time goes by.
Two days ago, November 2, which is a special day in Mexico
because we celebrate “DIA DE MUERTOS” (DAY OF THE DEAD),
Jose and I were watching TV and there was a programme about
Hiroshima.

Our hearts and minds flew back a year to this beautiful city
we visited during our training course, and where this year’s
participants are now!

What an experience it was!
You may have noticed I wrote “we”.
That’s because last year was the first time JICA accepted
a disabled participant with an assistant.
It wasn’t easy and JICA only covered my expenses; but it was
worth it.

A few weeks ago I received wonderful news: JICA officially
decided to accept disabled persons with an assistant if he/she
requires so.
I think this is great, another step ahead. I feel very honoured
that Jose and I, in a way, were able to be part of this decision.

Now it’s in your hands to take advantage of this new opportunity!
Our best wishes for all.

Love,
Veronica

sport training course -Carlos kaiser

Dear Friends,

In Chile we have an institution called "Instituto Nacional de
Rehabilitación Pedro Aguirre Cerda" (National Rehabilitation Center Pedro
Aguirre Cerda). Many professionals from Pedro Aguirre Cerda have been
studying in JICA.

We reach an agreement. They are helping Algarrobo Town to develop CBR.

These pictures are from a training course for sport trainers that was held
on their facilities in Santiago (our Capital city). 4 trainees were from
Algarrobo.

As you can see, we are working as a network. We share what we learnt from
Japan.
